The Story of Norah and Her Nine Little Pups

Back in mid-February, right after the nasty snow/ice storm, Norah Meier contacted JP Bonnelly about a stray black dog that lived in a drainage ditch near 175/Buckner. JP is known for getting hard-to-catch dogs off the streets and into good homes (some of his previous claims to fame are the LBJ dog and Jack the Church dog-lived on the Church grounds for 9 months and sadly the minister had threatened to shoot him).

Ok so back to the dog that is now named Norah, Take Me Home Pet Rescue agreed to take her in if JP caught her. Norah proved to be quite elusive and we soon learned from the people living in the area that they had been feeding her for 3-4 years and that’s how long she lived in the drainage ditch, poor baby! We went out there to try and get her for weeks on end, watching hopelessly as she walked in and out of traffic.

On March 26, we noticed she looked thinner and realized she must have had puppies! Fortunately we Norah the stray dog puppies were able to locate them as she had hidden them in a courtyard at the nearby House of Prayer. This worked to our advantage as we were finally able to get her to come into a smaller area where we could contain her and catch her (JP looped her when she came back to check on the pups).

We’re happy to report that Norah and her pups are doing well. Folks might anticipate that she would be a “feral” dog since she’s been out on her own for so long but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. She is an absolute sweetheart and is very tender and gentle. She’s also being a great momma to her pups, even though she’s not feeling so hot. She’s HW positive and also has 2 tick-related illnesses so once the pups are weaned we’ll start getting her treated for all of that, she’s a trooper and a definite survivor.

Please watch and share the video of Norah’s story. We could also use your financial support as we were not expecting to take on a whole litter of pups (on March 22 we also took in another stray momma dog and her newborn puppies). We are also in dire need of fosters, especially once the pups are weaned so please email foster@takemehomepetrescue.com if you’re in the DFW area and can help, thanks!

I’m fostering the little family so will keep you posted on their progress. Thanks, Rekka
