GREAT NEWS FOR A MONDAY! Austin Pets Alive! has gone national to help other cities become NO KILL. From the American Pets Alive Facebook page, they describe their mission as “AmPA enables groups outside of Austin to reach No Kill utilizing the successful methods of Austin Pets Alive. Training focuses on euthanasia list rescue, animal care, and innovative rehoming.”

News of Austin successfully becoming no kill has rightfully spread, and they are frequently contacted by others to learn how they did it. As you can see from the familiar logo, they’ve already been helping Phoenix Pets Alive! work towards becoming a no kill Arizona city.

Now they are packaging their successful program into a ‘how to’ national organization. They will host No Kill workshops, with the first one scheduled for September 26th-27th – yes, in 2011! Mark your calendar and sign up now by clicking here for the AmPa No Kill Workshop. The sessions will include:

  • Dog & Cat Euthanasia List Rescue
  • Dog & Cat High Volume Foster
  • Dog & Cat High Volume Adoptions including Adoption Events and Off sites
  • Leadership – How to Start/Attracting and Retaining a Volunteer Workforce
  • Marketing Tips and Tricks
  • Advocating for Animals – Using Democracy to Save Lives
  • Working from within a City Shelter to Save Lives
  • Medical – Handling Shelter Disease without Euthanasia
  • How to run a Bottle Baby Program
  • How to run a Parvo Program

This is great news for America, but especially helpful for our state! GET FIRED UP TEXAS, together, we can do this!

Click here for a collection of No Kill resources including two very helpful videos. The first video is No Kill Advocate, Ryan Clinton making a presentation to the Austin City Council – in the very early days of raising awareness for the no kill goal. The second, is a very informative interview with Nathan Winograd discussing how he took two shelters in two different parts of the country no kill – and some of the obstacles he overcame to do so.

  1. I have started a new rescue, Southern Molosser Rescue and have been overwhelmed. I am really excited about your workshop and would love to help implement your ideas. But I cannot afford the $100. Is there a contest or another way to earn a ticket toi the Sept workshop? I would be willing to volunteer or help in any way for an opportunity to be a part of this workshop.

Thank you for the wonderful job at bringing No Kill to the forefront of public view!
